Why English? A Global Passport for the Future
– from the English Department
English is more than just a school subject — it's your passport to the world. It connects people across countries and cultures and opens doors: to studying abroad, watching your favorite series in the original version, meeting new friends on your travels, chatting with teammates on Fortnite, or understanding what’s happening in the world through global news. And no — you don’t need to fly all the way to Canada, the US or the UK to practice your skills. Right here in Latin America, countries like Belize, Guyana, and Jamaica offer rich, authentic English-speaking environments. Why? Because they were once British colonies — and English is still one of their official languages. It is our goal to bring that global perspective into the classroom, to practice your intercultural competence through role plays, to help you engage in discussion about complex topics like climate change, migration or technology, to expand your access to the world of entertainment. We are making sure that irregular verbs are learn-learnt-learnt and that they shall never be forget-forgot-forgotten. And what makes your teachers so passionate about teaching English? Ask around — find out who once set out to study abroad in Michigan (USA) and ended up joining their university’s soccer team, who was married to an American, who surfed waves in South Africa before attending university classes, or who moved to Peru from a country known for having the most polite and tolerant people on earth. So, grab your passport — and start collecting stamps like KET, PET, and FCE. Each one is proof that your English can take you places.
